Tender Crisp Sugar Cookies

These are the best sugar cookies I've ever made! They were so good we didn't even frost them!
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
2-1/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
*Cream butter, shortening, and sugars until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
*Sift dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture and mix thoroughly.
*Shape dough into 1" balls. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Dip bottom of a glass in granulated sugar to press balls flat, re-dipping glass for each cookie.
*Bake at 375 for 10-12 mins, or until lightly browned.
